Week 5-Big Battery Hunt Update

21st Mar 2025

We’re now in Week 5 of our Big Battery Hunt, and wow – what an incredible effort from everyone at Glór na Mara Primary School! This week alone, we have collected and counted a whopping 1,998 batteries. That’s thousands of batteries saved from landfill and disposed of responsibly. Well done, everyone!

This Week’s Top Collectors!

A huge congratulations to our top three classes who have made an outstanding contribution to this week’s total:

  1. Ms Flavin – 639batteries!
  2. Mrs O Neachtain’s class – 448 batteries!
  3. Mr Kindlon’s class– 433 batteries!

Your hard work is truly making a difference, and we can’t wait to see how many more we can collect in the coming weeks.

Our Total So Far

Since we started the Big Battery Hunt, we have collected a staggering 29,332 batteries in just five weeks! That’s an incredible achievement and proof of the amazing teamwork and dedication of our school community.

Why Is This So Important?

Used batteries contain harmful chemicals like lead and mercury, which can be dangerous to the environment if they end up in landfill. By collecting and recycling them, we are: โœ… Preventing toxic chemicals from polluting our soil and water.
โœ… Helping to conserve important raw materials like zinc and iron, which can be reused.
โœ… Protecting wildlife and our local environment from battery waste.
โœ… Teaching our students the importance of responsible recycling and taking action to protect the planet.

Keep Going!

With just a few weeks left in our Big Battery Hunt, let’s keep up the amazing work! Keep bringing in those used batteries from home, ask family and friends to help, and let’s see if we can break another record next week!

Who will be next week’s top collecting class? We can’t wait to find out!

Thank you to everyone – pupils, parents, and teachers – for your continued support. Together, we are making a real impact!

Let’s keep hunting! ๐Ÿ”‹โ™ป๏ธ
