Green Schools in Action: Inspiring Young Climate Leaders!
On the 8th of January, our school buzzed with excitement as Hans Van De Ven, our Green Schools Education Officer, visited 5th class with Ms. Condon. Hans introduced the pupils to an exciting new programme designed by the Climate Action Team, specially crafted for students in 3rd to 6th class. This innovative initiative is all about critical thinking and inquiry-based learning, offering an immersive experience that empowers our young learners to take real action on climate change.
During the session, Hans led an engaging workshop where the children explored various issues related to climate change. Working together, they identified challenges in areas such as Energy, Waste, Water, Travel, and Biodiversity. But the fun didn’t stop there! The pupils were then challenged to brainstorm practical solutions—simple actions that anyone can take to make a big difference. It was a powerful reminder that even little actions, when combined, can have a huge impact on our planet and help ease climate anxiety.
We are especially proud that our 5th class pupils will play a leading role in our Green School initiatives, helping to champion projects and inspire the entire school community. This programme not only equips our students with the tools to think critically about environmental issues, but also encourages them to be proactive, creative, and collaborative in finding solutions.
Stay tuned for more updates as we roll out this fantastic programme across our school, and join us in celebrating the incredible efforts of our budding climate champions!
Together, we can make a greener, brighter future—one small action at a time.
